Ceramics Artist Bio

Devyn is a BFA Graduate from Florida Atlantic University. Devyn was the President of The Ceramics Guild of FAU for two years in a row. Devyn has shown her photography in the Coral Springs Museum of Art, Broward College Art Gallery, and won Gold key, Silver key and Honorable Mentions in  Scholastic Art Awards, Broward County Region in 2017. She has also exhibited her two quilts in the 2016 QuiltCon Exhibition. Now, Devyn creates 3D art. Devyn’s art focuses on an inner perspective of issues, giving the viewer a raw and realistic view of mental health struggles. As a person who has struggled with mental health, this theme prioritizes her artwork. Devyn mainly works with stoneware clay and enjoys functional work the most. Many of her larger pieces are hand-built using coils to express height and control within the artwork. Using this technique, she gives a hand-made experience to the pieces she creates. Devyn is a passionate and dedicated artist who cares about her process, practice, and ceramic community. Devyn’s inspirations have been Peter Voulkos, Paul Soldner, George Ohr, and Kathy King. All of these artists push the limits of their meanings and sculpture, causing them to create eccentric works with a sort of freedom to them. Their art is a conversation piece, which Devyn hopes to invoke in her own work.
